Indian Meal Moth
The Indian Meal Moth is the most common food-infesting pest found in homes today. Most infestations are a result of bringing home contaminated bird seed or dry dog food. A food source that is infested will generally have a webbing type material and larvae present. Most infestations are first discovered when the adult moth begins to fly. The adult Indian Meal Moth is easy to identify. They are about 3/8th long and if you look at the moth closely, you will notice that about 1/3rd of the outer wing is copper colored with the remaining 2/3 thirds a light beige color. Also, when the moths are flying they tend to fly in a slow zigzag pattern are consequently, fairly easy to capture. Obviously, the most important step in controlling the Indian Meal Moth is to remove all sources of contaminated food.
