ALL ABOUT TERMITE BAITING SYSTEMS
By Chris Williams on April 11, 2017.
Does your company use termite monitors? Our regular exterminator wants to inject termite chemicals around our foundation even though it’s not clear if we even have a termite problem. A friend has monitors around his home and swears by them. K. P., Boxborough, MA
Termite bait stations, or monitors as you call them, are actually the basis of our subterranean termite management program. We use the Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System which was the first termite baiting system available in 1995 and today is the No. 1 name in termite protection. Sentricon is available only through select Certified Trained Specialists and Colonial Pest is proud to be included in that group.
HOW DO TERMITE BAIT STATIONS WORK?
The termite bait stations are perforated plastic tubes that are inserted into the ground at intervals around your home. Inside the tubes is a wood-based “bait” insert that termites find and feed on. The in-ground tubes are both termite monitors that alert us when termites are present, and bait feeding stations that can eliminate termites as worker termites carry the bait back to the ground colony.
Not only are termite bait stations environmentally-friendly, they are child and pet-resistant, the tiny amount of low-toxicity pesticide is incorporated into the bait insert. There is no trenching around your foundation to inject pesticide, and no drilling or mess inside your home either. You don’t even have to be home for our service visits to check the stations.
CALL US FOR A TERMITE BAIT SYSTEM EVALUATION
Before we install the bait stations, our termite experts will inspect your home for evidence of infestation. If you already have an active infestation in your home, we may need to supplement the bait stations with additional treatment. But if you just need a monitoring system that will help protect your home for the future and will alert professionals if termites do become active, then the Sentricon system will work for you.
